Photo shortlisted in Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest
Robin's photo “Dune and Sky” was shortlisted in the Creative Visions of Nature category in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition, sponsored by the BBC Wildlife Magazine and the British Museum of Natural History. This year's contest received 40,942 entries from 95 countries. The photo shows the top of a sand dune against the sky in Namib Naukluft National Park in Namibia.
Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence Winners
Robin and Arlene Karpan won the Travel Media Award in the Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence for their book Saskatchewan Wild - A Wildlife Photographic Journey.
Saskatchewan Wild - A Wildlife Photographic Journey Saskatchewan Wild – A Wildlife Photographic Journey was released in 2010. The photography for the book was years in the making, but spending so much time outdoors in search of wild creatures made this one of the most enjoyable books we have ever worked on. Response has been very positive from both readers and the media. Richard Brown, guest host on the John Gormley Live radio show, even called it the best wildlife book ever on Saskatchewan.
Documentary on Robin and Arlene Karpan We just posted a documentary video on Robin and Arlene Karpan that MAX TV did on us recently. It features our nature photography, and profiles some of our books, especially Saskatchewan Wild.
More Awards for Parkland Publishing
We've been fortunate on the awards front recently. Last year we received our sixth Saskatchewan Tourism Award of Excellence – this time for our Northern Saskatchewan Canoe Country book in the Travel Journalism category. This spring, we went to Reno to accept the award for First Place in the Landscapes/Seascapes category in the continent-wide North American Travel Journalists Association Awards. This was for a photo feature we did on Saskatchewan's Athabasca Sand Dunes for Canadian Geographic Travel magazine. Some of those same photos are featured in our books including Northern Saskatchewan Canoe Country and Northern Sandscapes – Exploring Saskatchewan's Athabasca Sand Dunes. Three of our photographs made the semi-finals in the worldwide Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition sponsored by BBC Wildlife Magazine and the British Natural History Museum. The adjacent image of Saskatchewan's Clearwater River was named a Semi-Finalist in the Wild Places category. This same photo appears in Northern Saskatchewan Canoe Country.
